AppleTV To Become iTV And Sell Boxes For Submited By Faris Hussain
It's going to be a little confusing for us in the UK.
Remember AppleTV? It was a box that let you stream Apple content to your television. It never really took off.
Well, it's going to be relaunched....as iTV, according to Engadget.
How many iTVs/ITVs do we need!
Anyway, this looks like this re-launch could work for Apple and open up yet another iDevice market for the Cali giant.
It seems it will be officially announced in September, probably ready for sale in the run-up to Christmas. The new iTV will be a set-top box that will allow you to stream TV content supplied by Apple. It's thought the box will sell for about £99.
The company is negotiating hard at the moment to secure the rights to ... well, we don't know exactly...but lots.
Engadget is reporting that the screen resolution won't be as good as we were expecting, but still not bad.
And you'll be able to download apps, similar to iPhone and iPad ones. So you can Twitter and Facebook to your heart's content on your tele.
That's unless our ITV sues 'em.
